As part of our ‘Meet the Team’ blog series, we spoke to our Transaction Services Executive Josh McCorrie about working at the firm, what he enjoys doing away from work, and his advice for people looking to work in corporate finance.
When did you join Translink Corporate Finance UK?
I joined Translink in July 2022. I joined shortly after qualifying with an independent firm in December 2021.
What attracted you to Translink UK?
As I was leaving a smaller independent firm, it was important to me to find somewhere that valued workplace culture.
Translink UK is a fantastic place to work, and they really care about their staff. Although a huge firm with a big international reach, Translink cares about ensuring their staff feel valued and looked after – which was one of the key priorities to me when looking for a new role.
What is your role and what does a typical day at work look like for you?
My job role is Transaction Services Executive in the Transaction Services team at Translink’s Leeds office, where I joined after almost four years spent working in audit.
My usual day sees me collating relevant information, performing analysis on historical data, and drafting sections for due diligence reports.
What do you like best about working at Translink UK?
I enjoy the range of work that I get to be involved in. No two days are the same, and no two deals are the same either. There is a true variety in the work we do, and that’s what keeps it interesting.
Each deal presents a unique set of challenges and circumstances, which is what makes my work interesting.
I am thankful for the variety I get in my role, as it allows me to expand my skill set and broaden my knowledge.
How has Translink UK helped you in your career so far?
By working within the Transaction Services and wider Corporate Finance team and simply gaining experience in my chosen field, Translink UK has helped me in my career immeasurably.
Also, the fact I’m part of an award-winning team can only be a good thing!
What are your highlights and key achievements?
My highlight so far would be my involvement in my first due diligence report for an online food ordering business as it showed me that I made the right decision to move into an advisory-based role.
What advice would you give to someone who was thinking about applying for a role at Translink UK?
Go for it! The workplace culture is fantastic. They provide a positive environment and put a focus on career development.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work? Do you have any interests or hobbies?
Outside of work, I enjoy running and take part in a 5K park run on Saturday mornings.
I’m also a bit of a petrolhead with most of my brain filled with (pointless) car knowledge. I have a particular interest in Land Rovers!
What boxset are you currently watching?
I’m just getting to the end of the Netflix series and dark comedy, ‘Dead to Me’ – unfortunately this is the final season they are making.
What is your favourite type of cuisine and why?
My favourite cuisine has to be Italian – how can you beat pizza and pasta?!
What is the best place you have travelled to and why?
I would definitely say Cancun. I had the pleasure of going a few years ago and I’m hoping I can visit again in the future.
If you weren’t part of Translink UK, what would your dream job be?
I would probably work in a car garage – specifically working on old Land Rovers.
